HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Congratulations to the following students who were all green:  Tracy Watson, Bernice Corbin, Mallory Sword, and Skottie McNew

Congratulations to the following students who had no red:  Ashley Cox, Megan Stewart, and Kelsey Sullivan

*  I am changing the settings in Apex so that you can score a 50 on a quiz or test and still move on.  If you score a 50 and are not happy with it, you can retake it when you come back to school.  Keep moving on, though.  Don’t get further behind this weekend!

At the end of the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, please shut down the computer and turn off the monitor.  Before turning off the monitor, please make sure the computer has shut down.

  *  Don’t forget to register for the ACT.  There is a poster at school that lists the test dates and registration deadlines.  You can also check the website to the right.   You may check out a calculator from myself or Mrs. Peters the Friday before you take it.

 *  If you are in WebCT Psychology, you should be working in Chapter 7.

* There is way too much talking happening on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  I will be separating students as much as possible.  If we have to ask you to be quiet more than once, you will be sent home and it will count as an unexcused absence.  The deadline for Apex is Dec. 5!!!  No one has time to talk!

*Are you in the green?  About once a month we will have a Wii are in the Green celebration.  There will be pizza, drinks, and a Wii tournament.  We will be using Sunday night progress reports to determine who qualifies.  No one knows what week it will be, so try to be in the green each Sunday.  Good Luck!

No spotlight or quote this week.  Take advantage of the long weekend to get caught up in your classes!

She is 15 and her favorite subject is science.  Her favorite food is pasta.  She likes ACE because all the classes are online and it allows her to get a job.  When she has free time, she likes to do artwork and go swimming, take care of her little sister, and hang out with friends.  The most exciting thing she has ever done is to jump off a 90 ft. cliff!  She is very easy to get along with and very easy to talk to.  I’m glad we have her smiling face here at ACE.

Thought for the week:

From “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Teens”

“As an experiment, try something new.  Think more about what’s right with your life than what’s wrong.  Start first thing in the morning by waking up and thinking about at least three things you have to be thankful for.  If possible, write your answers down in a journal or on a sheet of paper.  You’ll be amazed at what will happen, how much happier you’ll be, when you focus not on your imperfect skin, but on how lucky you are to have a functioning body; not on your mom’s or dad’s imperfections, but on how lucky you are to have someone who cares; not on what’s wrong with you, but on something you like about yourself. ”

Thought for the week:  Habit #7(the last one) Sharpen the Saw

Sharpen the saw is the habit of self-renewal.  We can sharpen the saw in four areas:  1) Physical dimension by exercising, eating healthy, sleeping well, and relaxing  2) Mental dimension by reading, education, writing, learning new skills 3) emotional dimension by building relationships, giving service, and laughing 4) Spiritual dimension by meditating, keeping a journal, spending more time with whatever inspires.

Thought for the week:  Habit #6 – Synergize

Synergizing is a process.  It takes two or more people – a team.  It centers around the concept that everyone’s combined ideas can be greater than just one team member’s idea.  Habit 4 + Habit 5 = Habit 6.  Synergize will help you realize the benefits of working with others using cooperative cooperation.  It will help you promote trust and teamwork, and celebrate the differences among all players.

Thought for the week:  Habit #5  Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

Thought for the week: (back to the 7 habits)

Habit #4:  Think Win-Win

Win-lose is when people only want to win and don’t care if others lose.  Lose-win is when people allow others to win even when it means they lose.  Lose-lose is when people believe that if they go down, then others must go down with them.  Win-win is the belief that everyone can win;  there is more than enough to go around for everyone.
